Daruma Doll
The Daruma doll is a Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen Buddhism. Well known Japanese tradition is to first draw only one eye ball on his left to make a wish and if the wish comes true the other eye ball is finally drawn. Shimizu family, for many generations, lived close to Daruma temple in Takasaki which has more than 300 years history and it continues to be our family tradition. Of course HibikiDaruma in our office still has only one eye. |
